Assistant Controller

Full-time, exempt

Salary: $95,000 - $105,000

Onsite



The Job

Primarily responsible for managing, and maintaining the general ledger, grant and restricted fund reporting, and administering the accounting software.


In this role, you will...

1. Manages and maintains the general ledger system.

*Maintains the general ledger to ensure all internal and external reports generated are accurate and in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles.

*Monitors and analyzes reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts, resolving and correcting errors in a timely manner.

*Prepares monthly/quarterly/annual journal entries as required.

*Serves as backup for the Controller in managing the Accounting Team.


2. Manages financial administration and reporting for grants and restricted funds

*Assists with preparing budgets that support grant and funding request narratives.

*Monitors use of grant funds and coordinates with Advancement and grant managers to ensure utilization of funds complies with grant requirements.

*Manages financial reporting to funders that meet grant and funder deadlines.

*Work with Head of Budget and Financial Planning and Controller to ensure grant income/expenses are incorporated into cash management and operating budget.

*Maintains systems for analysis and tracking of restricted funds.

*Monitors use of restricted funds to ensure compliance for designated purpose.

*Provides ad hoc reporting and analysis of restricted funds.


3. Coordinates administration of the accounting software.

*Liaison with Information Systems department and software vendor.

*Designs management reports using accounting system with input from Controller and Head of Budget and Financial Planning.

*Trains general accounting staff in accounting system.


4. Assists Controller with the annual audit and tax returns.

*Prepares audit workpapers in compliance with FASB not-for-profit requirements.

*Prepares workpapers required for completion of the Form 990, and associated state tax returns.


5. Performs other related duties and responsibilities as requested by the Controller.



Requirements

Required:

*B.A. or B.S. in Accounting

*3-5 years of accounting experience, preferably including budget and planning

*Advanced Excel skills including proficiency with pivot tables

*Excellent written and oral communication skills

*Ability to work responsibly with confidential information

*Proficiency with Oracle NetSuite or similar accounting software and other accounting applications


Preferred:

*Not-for-profit experience

*10+ M budget experience

*CPA or CMA a plus
