Job Summary

The Assistant Director, Academic Success Programs provides operational oversight and management of academic support services within the Center for Academic Achievement (CAA). Areas of support include peer tutoring services, academic coaching and recovery efforts, supplemental instruction, and the Writing Lab. The Assistant Director participates in and supports the assessment and analysis of program effectiveness and establishes future direction of programming.

Job Description

Typical duties my include but are not limited to:

  • Provides oversight and management of academic support services in collaboration with the director.
  • Creates, develops, and implements comprehensive and systematic academic support services.
  • Oversees the design and implementation of student success workshops.
  • Provides guidance and direction to professional staff,OPS, and student staff. Delegates work, establishes work schedules, and communicates performance standards.
  • Interviews, hires, trains, and evaluates staff to ensure adequate staffing within budget.
  • Serves as a liaison between administration and employees by handling questions, interpreting and administering policies and procedures, and resolving escalated issues and concerns related to the scope of duties.
  • Participates in the development, implementation, documentation, and enforcement of policies and procedures.
  • Participates in the strategic planning for assigned areas and assists with developing and implementing the departmental strategic plan.
  • Develops, administers and analyzes continuous assessment of programs. Prepares and evaluates statistical, analytical, and narrative reports to be used for decision making and program improvement.
  • Establishes performance goals and measures to evaluate success within the assigned area of responsibility.
  • Supervises professional staff, support staff, and student leaders.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of student leader training and professional development opportunities.
  • Engages in professional development opportunities related to the position to stay up-to-date and informed on best practices for academic support initiatives.

Other Duties:

  • Facilitates student academic success coaching sessions and presentations as needed.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:

  • This position requires either nine years of directly related full-time experience or, as an alternative, a Master's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and three years of full-time experience directly related to the job functions.
  • Professional full-time experience in a higher education setting or related area.
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
  • Experience operating a personal computer and proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working within a higher education institution in a student support services environment that included student instructional support programs, first- and second-year student support and development programs, supplemental instruction program, student advising, student counseling, and student leader training.
  • Experience working with budgets, training, program development, student management and leadership development.
  • Experience collecting, maintaining, and researching data for assessment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of student intellectual, emotional, and social development theory, techniques, and research.
  • Knowledge ofFERPA.
  • Knowledge of state statutes and rules of higher education within the state of Florida.
  • Knowledge of theoretical models of college student development and students in transition.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects.
  • Ability to think critically and creatively, have a high standard of integrity, and be motivated to incorporate best practices into the organizational structure.
  • Ability to establish collaborative and strategic relationships with a variety of colleagues, students, and the general public.
  • Ability to work successfully as both a member of a team and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to take initiative to plan, organize, coordinate and perform work in various situations when numerous and diverse demands are involved.
  • Ability to develop and implement policies, procedures, goals and objectives.
  • Ability to effectively manage the work of others by providing information, guidance, and motivation.
  • Ability to implement new systems and procedures and to evaluate their effectiveness.
  • Ability to operate personal computers with proficiency and learn new applications and systems.
  • Ability to exercise a high degree of independent judgement in the establishment, interpretation, application, and enforcement of all rules, regulations, and policies.
