LIBRARIAN I

Chicago Public Library

{Children's Services and Family Engagement}

Number of Positions: 1 (Additional vacancies possible pending budget approval)

This position is open to the public and all current city employees covered under the City's Collective Bargaining Agreement with AMERICAN FEDERATION OF STATE, COUNTY, AND MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES (AFSCME) - BARGAINING UNIT 1, 3, 4 & 5. Only employees in City job titles in this bargaining unit are eligible to bid.

Under supervision, research educational topics and best practices in education and libraries for use in program development and in resource sharing.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

* Work as part of an administrative team providing support to public-facing staff who serve children, youth, and families in 81 locations.

* Assist with system wide program scheduling, and communication with branch staff about programming.

* Provide support for all aspects of multiple systemwide initiatives, including partnership development, marketing, professional development, and maintenance of physical objects and collections.

* Support Librarian IIIs with data entry, logistics, and materials management. Participate in professional learning to develop new skills and bring new developments in the field to public-facing staff with an emphasis on outreach services to families with children.

* Perform related duties as required.

Additional duties may be required for this position.

LOCATION: HWLC 400 S. State St. 2nd floor

DAYS OFF: Monday- Friday with occasional weekends and evenings

SHIFT: Will be required to work some evenings and weekends

HOURS: 37.5 hours per week to be scheduled during normal unit hours

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALFICATIONS

Graduation from an accredited American Library Association college or university with a Master's degree in Library Science or an approved foreign credential evaluation.

Licensure, Certification, or Other Qualifications:

None

SELECTION REQUIREMENTS

This position requires applicants to complete an interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position based on the oral parts of the interview will be selected.

NOTE: Physical day to day responsibilities for this title may include the ability to lift and carry library materials. Ability to stand for extended or continuous periods of time. Ability to bend, stretch, twist or reach out with one's body arms or legs. Ability to climb staircases, ladders and or step stools.

NOTE: Attach a copy of your transcripts.

Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:

* Foreign Language proficiency.

* Previous work experience working with children and families.

* Previous project management experience.
