Job Summary:
The Staff Accountant, with a heavy focus on fixed asset (ASC 360) and lease accounting (ASC 842), plays a pivotal role in ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance with accounting standards. This role requires meticulous attention to details, strong analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. The incumbent will also support month-end closing activities, reconciliations, audit requests, unit cost and recovery analysis, lease system implementation, and provide ad-hoc support as needed.
Level:
Work is primarily independent with occasional guidance. Specialized in lease accounting and related general accounting and finance activities.
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Manage fixed asset and lease accounting activities in compliance with standards, including data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather fixed asset and lease-related information to ensure accurate recording of transactions.
  • Conduct unit cost and recovery analysis to support decision-making and cost optimization initiatives.
  • Support month-end and year-end closing processes, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Collaborate, lead, and support auditors on various audits and practices, such as PBC audit and FAR audit.
  • Manage the implementation of new lease accounting software, including data migration and system testing.
  • Closely collaborate with the controller to identify trends, analyze variances, and identify areas for improvement.
  • Play a key role in ensuring acquired companies integrated in the Accounting practices.
  • Take the initiative to mentor staff members and participate in training sessions, such as accounting technical training.
  • Identify efficiency measures and/or adopt best practice recommended by auditors to streamline workflows and ensure compliance with internal controls.
  • Provide ad-hoc analysis and report as requested.
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Proficiency in lease accounting principles.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and compliance.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proactive mindset with a willingness to learn and adapt to new challenges.
  • Knowledge of lease accounting software is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting/consulting software, specifically Deltek Vantagepoint, and Microsoft Excel for data entry and analysis.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve discrepancies.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Maintain a high level of integrity and adhere to ethical accounting practices.
Education, Experience, Licensure: (minimum qualifications)
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in accounting or a related field.
  • Certification is desired (e.g. CPA, CMA).
Physical Requirements: (minimum qualifications)
  • Prolonged periods sitting or standing at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to list up to 20 pounds.
  • Must be able to travel to various project sites.
  • Must be able to access and navigate job sites and construction areas.
