JOB SUMMARY

The Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Counselor reports to the Program Director and/or the Supervising Counselor and will provide direct services to residents.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Conduct group and individual counseling sessions for program clients and if needed, family members.
  2. Conduct resident orientations.
  3. Perform drug testing of clients as required.
  4. Assist clients in attaining the goals on their treatment plans and problem list's.
  5. Document services in required computer programs to meet program and contract criteria, as outlined in the program protocol.
  6. Make written notes on client behavior noting significant interventions.
  7. Participate in screening, assessments and placement of clients using ASAM Criteria.
  8. Document resident progress toward goals and maintain on-going communication with placement agencies regarding such progress or lack of progress.
  9. Prepare and facilitate large and small groups for counseling, process, education, recreation and family.
  10. Assist residents in appropriate utilization of referral services.
  11. Assist residents in release planning.
  12. Implement appropriate disciplinary actions.
  13. Possess the interpersonal skills required for effective interaction with residents.
  14. Possess skills required to assist Monitors.
  15. Attend and participate in all staff, Case Staffings and other meetings relevant to the program.
  16. Ability to input into county or state EHR SmartCare computer system.
  17. Drive on Agency business as requested.
  18. Physical presence at the program is required.
  19. Think and act quickly and efficiently in emergencies.

ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

  1. High School diploma or GED.
  2. Must have one year of experience working with the Substance Use Disorder population in a substance abuse program.
  3. Knowledge of substance abuse, addictions, and related disorders, and ability to effectively provide educational groups regarding the treatment of these disorders.
  4. Must have a current AOD certification/license from a certifying body approved by the State of California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) or must be enrolled in a program to obtain AOD Counselor certification in compliance with State DHCS regulations.
  5. Must obtain CPR and First Aid certification within four (4) weeks of hire.
  6. Ability to work effectively and professionally with program clients.
  7. Must have experience in group counseling and be able to facilitate various types of groups.
  8. Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, Office 365, Teams, Zoom and other communication/meeting platforms.
  9. Possess a valid driver's license and have access to a dependable means of transportation that is properly insured and operated in accordance with all laws. Agency insurer authorization is required.
  10. Ability to pass a criminal background check.
  11. Ability to pass a pre-employment physical, drug screen, general physical, and TB test.
