Job Title: Supervisor, Shipping

Location: Conyers, GA

What we're looking for:

We are looking for a Supervisor, Shipping who will be responsible for all logistics functions including the supervision and training of members of the shipping team. Responsible for providing support to the shipping and crating functions of the organization. Supervises and coordinates activities of workers by verifying and keeping records of incoming and outgoing shipments and preparing items for shipment. Studies shipping notices, bill of landing, invoices, orders and other records to determine shipping priorities, work assignments, and shipping methods required to meet the shipping schedules. This role is focused on customer On Time to Deliver (OTD) of our FG and achievement of monthly revenue goals.

What you'll be responsible for in this role:

  • Provides supervision, training, scheduling, and guidance to the shipping team
  • Leads Traffic Coordinators in executing daily logistics tasks around scheduling, reporting, and auditing
  • Plan, track and schedule all containers, truck orders, and LTL shipments and act as liaison with brokers and freight carriers
  • Directs freight movements internally and externally, ensuring an optimized cost model
  • Coordinates with suppliers on logistics and issues pertaining to deliveries.
  • Performs costing and pricing analysis for carrier pricing and proposals
  • Identify cost reduction opportunities through process improvement and vendor management
  • Manage freight claims and ensure appropriate action is taken
  • Develop a schedule for the daily distribution of products to customers that ensures on time deliveries at the lowest possible cost
  • Notify Cross-Functional leaders of any situations that may affect customer deliveries and work to identify solutions to meet customer demands
  • Detailed planning: Inquiry, RFQ, Selection, Approval, Requisition, follow up, and delivery to management
  • Anticipate problems, gather appropriate data and diagnose the cause of a problem to develop contingency plans.
  • Participates as a key member of the supply chain team to support activities that generate revenue, reduce cost, and improve asset utilization
  • Provide timely communications and customer service functions in a multi-client environment
  • Manage daily support of production needs such as expediting material, setting priorities and addressing issues.
  • Ensures workplace health and safety requirements are met and take responsibility for the security of the warehouse, crating and stock.
  • Guarantees proper transactions are executed in a timely manner.
  • Fosters positive working relationships. Responds proactively to performance concerns, discipline, employee complaints and other employee relations matters.
  • Responsible for all aspects of finished goods handling, including safety, quality packaging and on-time shipping and order accuracy.
  • Record shipment data, such as weight, charges, space availability, and damages and discrepancies, for recordkeeping purposes. Determines routing and legal load limit of trucks, according to established schedules and weight limits of states.
  • Works with client representatives to rectify shipping problems, such as damages, shortages and nonconformance to specifications.
  • Inspects material handling equipment for defects and notifies maintenance personnel or contacts outside service facility for repair.
  • Calculates amount and makes recommendations regarding available space available, shipping, storage, and demurrage.
  • Ensures department is compliant to all company policies and procedures and issues corrective actions as needed.

What are the basic qualifications?

  • Bachelor's Degree in supply chain, management, engineering, or related field
  • Minimum 8 years supervising in a manufacturing environment

What are the preferred qualifications?

  • 6 year's logistics experience preferred
  • Experience and/or certification in lean or six sigma
  • Demonstrated results
  • APICS certification
  • Master's Degree
