Social Media Content Manager

This important role is responsible for all aspects of the main Canisius University social media presence. The successful candidate will provide strategic guidance and day-to-day management of social media efforts; produce and distribute audio, video, photographic, and written digital content highlighting the Canisius's programs, events, and other areas of interest and targeted to the University's key audiences. The incumbent will focus on social media content, strategy, and optimization, along with assisting the marketing and communications team with content strategy and writing. This position requires some nights and weekends.

Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and execute the University's social media strategic plan that adheres to the organizational marketing strategy, with a particular focus on generating awareness and engagement around student stories, faculty thought leadership, Jesuit values, market connection, and service.
  2. Work with communicators across campus to ensure all university social media channels are following best practices and working to grow audiences.
  1. Lead social media listening and community management strategy; identify, evaluate, and react to spikes in conversation from a client relation, customer service, and/or media relations standpoint.
  2. Leverage and optimize the impact of respective social media platforms among key target audiences (i.e., prospective students, alumni, higher education influencers).
  3. Operate as a social media journalist, creating compelling social media narratives and engagement through digital storytelling.
  4. Generate and analyze reports on social media metrics related to user growth, engagement, and behaviors, using insights to guide the brand's social media presence toward achieving targeted goals.
  5. Manage day-to-day social media activities including:
    • Create, curate, and post relevant content.
    • Provide coverage and timely postings for all University affiliated events.
    • Deliver balanced flow of scheduled and opportunistic content with appropriate frequency.
    • Keep campus stakeholders informed on topics of concern and/or relevance and best practice.
  6. Produce and/or coordinate development of strong visual assets, including video, still photography, and graphics.
  7. Develop and manage social media editorial calendar based on short-term and long-term content strategies.
  8. Monitor and engage with responders with an emphasis on building relationships with prospective students, alumni donors, and the community.
  9. Respond to general, non-press inquiries generated through social media accounts, or connect appropriate team-member in to provide response.
  10. Work with the Director of Public Relations to coordinate social media messaging.
  11. Listen and engage in relevant social media interactions about Canisius University, our competitors, and businesses, with the intent of both elevating the profile of the University among key education audiences and monitoring the category for key trends or happenings that warrant further University attention.
  12. Conduct testing for content, post frequency, and other key variables to optimize the University's social media strategies.
  13. Monitor latest trends and best practices in social media, including tools, applications, channels, design and strategy, and implement for the University once they can deliver impact.
  14. Maintain current awareness of the University's threat protocols and follow when encountering user content of a threatening nature.
  1. Create written content, edit, and contribute to the overall success of the marketing and communications team and enrollment management team.
  2. Assist admissions with all major events and other requests, as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism or related field
  2. Minimum 3-5 years experience in communications, public relations, journalism or related field
  3. Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to craft compelling stories and messages for diverse audiences (familiarization with associated press a plus)
  4. Experience managing social media and familiarization with print publications and electronic newsletters for an organization
  5. Excellent project management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  6. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
  7. Photography and video skills

Compensation and Benefits:

Salary: $60,000.00 annually

Please note that the compensation information is a good faith estimate of the base pay for this position. The selected candidate's actual base pay will be based on job-related, non-discriminatory factors including experience. Information about the total compensation package for this position will be provided during the interview process.

This is a full-time position. Benefits are available the first of the month after the full-time employee's date of hire and include - health, dental and vision insurance, life and long-term disability insurance, and retirement plan enrollment is available to full-time employees with contribution from the University after one year. Paid holidays, vacation, personal leave, and sick leave. Tuition benefits are also available for full-time employees and their qualified dependents.
