Job Summary:

The Bell Lab in the Division of Cardiology is seeking a Laboratory Science Professional who is highly motivated and eager to learn, conduct research, and work as a team with other laboratory staff. The lab is building a program to study mechanistic interactions of cancer and cancer therapeutics with the cardiovascular system using mouse models, routine in vitro assays, multi-omics, and patient data. The ideal candidate should have prior experience in a wet bench laboratory, performing routine molecular biology assays, and working with mouse models. Candidates should be enthusiastic to work with the Principal Investigator in developing the operating framework of a new lab, testing and troubleshooting new experimental approaches, and creating a lab culture of collaboration, innovation, and high-quality science.

This is a full-time laboratory position and so requires working a regular, in-person schedule (expectation of a 40-hour, five-day work week).

Key Responsibilities:

• Small animal ultrasound (vascular ultrasound, echocardiography), tail vein and intraperitoneal injections, other animal procedures.
• Laboratory work related to smooth muscle cell and myocardial biology, immunology and molecular biology including biochemical analysis, quantitative PCR, cell culture, flow cytometry, western blot, cloning, histology, mouse handling and dissection.
• Processing and preparation of samples for multi-omics analysis.
• Will work on projects studying mechanisms of smooth muscle cell and myocardial dysfunction in the context of cancer and cancer therapeutic exposure.
• May assist in the training of new members of the team, including graduate students, on laboratory protocols and operations, and experimental procedures.
• Will develop proficiency in collecting, recording, analyzing, and presenting data.
• May assist the Principal Investigator with development and writing of research protocols.
• May assist the Principal Investigator with development and writing of manuscripts and presentations, including as a credited author where appropriate.

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Minimum Qualifications:

Entry Level:

• Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field.
  • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.

Intermediate Level:

• Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field.
  • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.
• One (1) year professional level research experience.

Senior Level:

• Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field.
  • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.
• Two (2) years professional level research experience.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field.
• Prior research experience using rodent models (mice or rats) in a laboratory setting, including functional assays and euthanasia for tissue collection.
• One (1) year of experience in cardiovascular or cancer basic sciences, ideally using rodent disease models.
• Experience with functional and biochemical assessment of vascular/cardiac pathology, cell biology, or signaling.
• One (1) to three (3) years of experience in an experimental or wet lab.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Proficient command of the English language, both written and verbal.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
• Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to problem-solve, multi-task, and work independently or as part of a team.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.

Conditions of Employment:

• Must be willing to work in a standard biomedical research environment that may contain fumes, chemicals, liquid nitrogen, sharp objects, hazardous materials, and tissue/body fluids from mice.
• Must be willing to work with complex laboratory equipment, chemical solutions, and biological materials.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as:

Entry Level: $45,000 - $57,240

Intermediate Level: $48,970 - $62,290

Senior Level: $52,941 - $67,341

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
