Sr. Controls System Technician (Shop and Field)

BUSINESS: Refinery Valves - DeltaValve or TapcoEnpro

LOCATION: Channelview, TX

REPORTS TO: Manager, Engineering - DeltaValve

POSITION DETAILS

Position Summary

As our Sr. Controls System Technician, you will perform maintenance and/or the installation, commissioning and modification of PLC or Microprocessor-based control systems for petrochemical and industrial valves and related equipment and associated wiring at the company location or at the customer site. You will assist in assembling, troubleshooting, and testing new equipment and developing software to ensure capability and cost-effectiveness for production.

Principal Activities

You Will

  • Program and install PLC controls systems.
  • Configure and install company-designed digital valve controllers (DVCs) within industrial settings, ensuring precise functionality and optimal performance
  • Under minimal supervision, assist in the maintenance and/or the installation, modification, and removal of equipment and associated wiring at the company location or at the customer site.
  • Assist in the startup and commissioning of PLC and DVC systems and related equipment.
  • Assist in the testing, removal, repair, adjustment of equipment, and problems associated with operation and maintenance of PLC and DVC systems.
  • Confirm system has been installed properly onsite and is ready for site acceptance test (SAT).
  • Generate punch list of action items and ensure action items are completed.
  • Participate in all testing activities including factory acceptance testing (FAT) and SAT to ensure proper operation.
  • Conduct tests and record data in the shop or field on systems serviced.
  • Report and perform routine maintenance.
  • Provide critical technical data for engineering support, on site or in the shop, on a variety of complex technical tasks.
  • Review and understand project specific P&IDs, schematics, and cause and effect matrices for design development and assembly activities.
  • Configure and calibrate field instrumentation and other equipment.
  • Analyze controls, instrumentation, and operational problems and implement resolutions.
  • Develop and formalize written customer reports for services performed.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

You Have:

  • Ability to understand application of the PLC systems and implement actions to ensure safe and reliable functioning of complete system (i.e. Mechanical assembly, valves, and hydraulic systems).
  • PLC experience - reading drawings, schematics, programming, panel wiring, simulation testing, FAT, and SAT.
  • Working knowledge of multimeter, current source, handheld HART communicator, and calibration of field instruments (transmitters, positioners, etc.).
  • Knowledge of controls required.
  • Understanding of and experience working with valves and hydraulics preferred.
  • Sound customer service, analytical, reasoning, and independent thinking skills.
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 30%.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, or diploma in Electronics, Electrical, Instrumentation, or Industrial Automation and six plus years of related experience, or combination of education and experience required (i.e. technical training experience or formal mechanical or electronic apprentice trained).
  • Experience in manufacturing and petrochemical or related industry (i.e. heavy, industrial equipment) is preferred.
