Summary
The Shift Technical Advisor (STA) Trainee monitors plant and plant-related activities, maintains awareness of risk and identifies quality-related issues at Palo Verde.
Advises and updates shift manager on all issues.

Under the direction of the on-shift Technical Advisor, performs engineering and technical tasks to support the on-shift Operations organization.

Attends and successfully completes the requirements of assigned training activities in accordance with the Shift Technical Advisor Training Program Description.

Performs work in accordance with plant procedures and standards, specific engineering principles and technical guidance.
Minimum Requirements
A four-year Bachelors degree in Engineering or related science discipline from an accredited college or university.

Nuclear requirement:

Any PVNGS employee may be called upon to serve as a member of the Emergency Response Organization (ERO) and will be expected to fulfill their obligation as an ERO member.

Any PVNGS employee may be called upon to support a refueling or short-notice outage.

This includes line roles and responsibilities as necessary to execute outage activities.

These are conditions of employment at PVNGS.
Major Accountabilities
1) Successfully completes initial mandatory classroom training and the STA Job Qualification Card (JQC).

2) Under the direction of the on-shift Technical Advisor, provides engineering and technical support to the Operations shift crew in the areas of Nuclear Power Plant Fundamentals, Reactor Engineering, Thermal Hydraulics, and Plant Operating characteristics during normal, abnormal and emergency events which include oversight and monitoring of event progression and engineering support resolution of operational problems.


3) Under the direction of the on-shift Technical Advisor, makes recommendations regarding the operability of equipment required by technical specifications.

Verifies and tracks compliance with applicable Action Statement(s) and identifies Reportability requirements in accordance with the Event Reporting Manual.

Researches and verifies requirements and conditions.


4) Under the direction of the on-shift Technical Advisor, supports the performance of incident investigations and Post Trip reviews as necessary by collecting and analyzing plant data and developing preliminary reports.


5) Reviews Operating Experience for applicability to Palo Verde.


6) Completes assignments using various planning and scheduling practices such as corrective action processes, operability determinations, regulatory processes, training program activities, etc.

Coordinates efforts with other disciplines and departments as appropriate.


7) Identifies potential schedule or quality problems and initiates corrective action.

Plant/FieldRole:
This position requires work to be performed in the field and/or at the work site, due to the nature of work.

Any PVGS employees may be called upon for random Fitness for Duty (FFD) testing during scheduled working hours. Employees, if off-site, must report to FFD at Palo Verde as soon as reasonably practicable, but no more than 120 minutes after being notified. Employees who are onsite when notified will have no more than 60 minutes to report after being notified.
