The Warehouse Superintendent directs and coordinates the operations of the warehouses including, but not limited to space allocation, cargo receiving, storing, reloading, and trucking operations with the objective of guaranteeing quality, security, safety and efficiency in accordance with relevant operational and technical parameters. This position serves as first line supervisor of the operations management team and is responsible for the direction and supervision of warehouse workers and truck drivers. The Warehouse Superintendent is cross trained in warehousing and shipping operations.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Manages the availability of equipment and personnel required for timely completion of all shipping warehouse and trucking operations, and that staff and equipment are fully utilized, optimize resources utilization and uptime to meet the economic performance indicators, and assist as necessary with other required tasks to complete the operation within the scheduled time frame.
  • Works closely with General Superintendent and Operations Manager to prepare operational plan while determining the appropriate workforce to hire for an efficient and cost-effective completion of plan.
  • Supervises all personnel, including company labor and contract labor, in proper operating procedures, and as needed will counsel, discipline and/or make termination recommendations to ensure an efficient operation.
  • Enforces productivity levels by effectively directly supervising workers within the operation and provides any follow up assessments prior to shift end.
  • Manages and updates all inventories systems daily and is responsible for maintaining inventory accuracy through regular physical audits of stored cargo.
  • Responsible for planning space allocation of current and future cargoes.
  • Prepares daily all billing records on trucking and warehouse operations to ensure that all billable revenue is properly charged to the customers.
  • Completes various reports and forms such as shift production, time distribution (TD) sheets, and safety summaries; Produces reports to respective parties within required deadlines.
  • Plans, holds, and documents daily safety meetings; partnering with Area Health, Safety & Environment to understand and train longshore workers to adhere to safety procedures while implementing plans to address safety hazards.
  • Ensures that all PPE is always worn and distributed for jobs that require additional PPE.
  • Enforces and follows plans, requirements, and orders.
  • Responsible for investigation and reporting damages and liabilities to the appropriate management and authorities.
  • Responsible for maintaining clear and open lines of communication with customers, vendors, and employees to ensure that the needs of each are addressed and handled in a professional manner.
  • Ensures that all employees follow the company policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Manual.
  • Assisting in other operational areas as needed to ensure that work is completed in the timeliest, safest, and most efficient manner.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • High school diploma or equivalent work experience
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification required
  • Must have valid DL
  • Thorough knowledge or warehouse operations
  • Proven leadership skills.
  • Knowledge of safety and accident prevention codes and regulations
  • Knowledge and understanding of cargo securement rules strongly desired
  • Required to observe all safety and health requirements for the workplace
  • Ability to manage a large, complex and diverse workforce in a fast-paced environment.
  • Requires problem solving skills to respond quickly and effectively to operational issues.
  • Requires the ability to plan and organize projects in a fast-paced environment and be available to work varied hours, shifts and days.
  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively with workforce, customers, third party employees and other staff.
  • Have an ability to motivate fellow employees, labor, and the customer base.
  • Ability to have a "flexible" schedule and to be able to work extended hours and weekends when requested or necessary.
  • Ability to explain, express, defines and gives examples of ideas and operations.

Work Environment:
  • Must be able to work in rotating shifts, days, evenings and nights at multiple terminals
  • Must be able to work in extreme outdoor temperatures of hot and cold, extremely dusty conditions and occasionally, conditions of high levels of noise.
  • The ability to work in an environment that may be hazardous to persons unable to see and hear fast moving equipment
  • The ability to drive 10%
