  • Bachelor's degree.
  • One (1) year experience related to advising, education or career counseling.
Minimum qualifications can be substituted with an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

Preferred qualifications:
Preference will be given to individuals who possess:
  • Master's degree
  • Experience with career advising or career counseling
  • Knowledge of student services business practices
  • Experience planning and organizing workshops/events
  • Experience with career inventory or assessment tools
  • Demonstration of working with exploratory or undecided students
  • Evidence of working with diverse populations
  • Evidence of customer service experience
  • Evidence of working with multiple projects or departments


Work Hours
Normally scheduled Monday through Friday; however, may be required to work other shifts to include evenings and/or weekends. Schedule subject to change based upon department needs.
Compensation The annual salary is $50,684 to $53,725. A competitive benefit package is included. Special Instructions to Applicants

Class Summary
Incumbents assist exploratory students with career advising services that meet students when they enter and assists in developing a personalized career plan.

Typical Essential Duties
  • Create and conduct career exploration presentations and workshops for prospective and current students.
  • Target case management strategies that address building first-year exploratory Pathway students sense of foundation in career development skills.
  • Partner with Exploratory Academic Advisor, faculty, staff and external agencies to provide comprehensive services and information resources that enable students to take active responsibility for their college and career decisions and planning.
  • Coordinates operations and activities of the career services office. Duties can include, but are not limited to; ensuring adequate staffing levels, managing the Career Center budget, developing promotional materials, and updating documents related to policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for proactively responding to referrals from other areas regarding students needing career exploration assistance.
  • Use appropriate systems and technologies as directed to enter, retrieve, and/or research information and to maintain accurate record keeping and communication.
  • Maintain thorough understanding of MCC programs, policies, procedures and systems to effectively and accurately guide students.
  • Administers assessment instruments and interprets results to provide career advising services to students.
  • Collaborate with Career Services Coordinator and maintain knowledge of changes in the workplace and economic outlook as they impact students' career choices, preparation, and employment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Skilled in utilizing communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, and others sufficient to exchange or convey information.

Physical Requirements
Positions in this class typically require: feeling, grasping, hearing, fingering, reaching, repetitive motion, standing, talking, visual acuity, and walking. The work is light work which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects.
