Position Description: | Background: The Department of Otolaryngology-HNS is recruiting for a Postdoctoral Research Scholar. This position is anticipated to start in January-April 2025. The Molecular Otolaryngology & Research Laboratories studies complement-mediated renal diseases, with a particular focus on thrombotic microangiopathies and C3 Glomerulopathy. Establishing the role of complement in complement-mediated TMAs (also known as atypical HUS) has led to the development of anti-complement therapies that have improved patient outcome to such an extent that long-term health is now a reality. Scientists in the MORL have contributed to this body of work in many ways and continue to focus on defining the different mechanisms that underlie disease to develop more refined diagnostic and treatment algorithms, resolve questions of phenotypic variability, and provide more precise patient care. Scientists in the MORL have also made significant contributions to defining the genetic and acquired drivers of C3G and in defining the perturbations in the complement system that reflect disease activity. MORL scientists are also focused on developing new ways to treat C3G. Responsibilities: Key areas of responsibilities for the Postdoctoral Research Scholar include but are not limited to proactively conducting research activities/experiments, developing new hypothesis, collecting, analyzing and summarizing data, troubleshooting experiments, preparing reports, maintaining logbooks, writing manuscripts/publications/grant proposals, administrative and project management, facilities and equipment management, supervision/staffing, and participating in the training of other lab personnel. The successful candidate will be self-motivated and work closely with the principal investigators, as well as other fellows, students, technicians, and clinicians, in a highly collaborative environment integrating clinical and basic science. Independent and creative ideas and approaches are highly encouraged. Applicants will be expected to play a lead role in current research projects but will also have the opportunity to develop independent research projects related to their own interests. |
