Job Summary

Position Summary/Purpose:

Under the supervision of a school social worker and/or administrator, the School Social Work Aide engages in tasks which provide for improved home-school cooperation. A School Social Work Aide advocates for the needs of students within the school and community.

To perform this job successfuly, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Candidates must have a valid Wisconsin drivers license and a vehicle with liability coverage insurance policy to conduct home visits. This job also requires candidsates to lift 8-10 pounds. The requirements lesters below are representative of the knowledge, skill and ability required. Qualifications

Education Requirements:

High School diploma or GED is required. College coursework in social services is desired.

Experience Requirements:

Knowledge of the needs of children and families in an urban environment. Previous experience working in a school environment is desired.

Essential Functions/ Core Competencies:

  • Conducts home visits to meet with parents/guardians and students regarding absenteeism and truancy concerns
  • Connects students and families with community resources, as needed
  • Consults with the school social worker to discuss current caseloads, student/family needs, and educational goals
  • Attends staff and other professional meetings, in-services, and workshops, as required
  • Maintains written records of all contacts (i.e., home visits, phone calls, in-school meetings, etc.) made with students and parents/guardians in the district's student data system
  • Understands district attendance and truancy policies and procedures
  • Responds promptly to and engages with a variety of audiences
  • Provides high-quality customer service
  • Performs other duties as assigned
