Position Overview

Essential Job Duties
The mission of the Department of Animal Science is to provide high-quality, relevant education and training for about 750 undergraduate and 120 graduate students to develop new knowledge through research in selected areas to improve the efficiency and sustainability of animal agriculture, biomedical science, and nonagricultural animal management to disseminate relevant research-based knowledge to a varied clientele for problem-solving, enhancing food system.

The Department of Animal Science at NC State University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Scholar position. Under Dr. Christian Maltecca's guidance, this position will investigate the biological mechanisms of heat stress in pigs through multi-omics data integration.

Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities will include:
  • Conducting collaborative scientific research
  • Writing journal paper publications and presenting research at scientific conferences
  • Contributing to the training of graduate/undergraduate students
  • Contributing to grant applications
  • Participating in career development workshops and activities

Requirements and Preferences

Work Schedule Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. Work schedule may vary to include weekends and/or evening hours.
Department Required Skills
  • Ph.D. in quantitative genetics, animal breeding and genetics, or a related field
  • Ability to work collaboratively with excellent communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience in genomic data analysis (e.g., variant calling, genotype imputation, GWAS, genomic prediction)
  • Proficiency in programming (R, Python, Julia, or other)
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
  • Strong background in statistics
