Title: Account Clerk 3 - Fiscal Services

Salary: $30,947-$34,468, dependent on education and experience

Job Summary

The Account Clerk III represents the Finance team on our Blountville campus, serving as the back-up cashier and assisting students as needed. Their responsibilities include payment posting, processing and reconciliation of accounts receivable and third-party accounts, unclaimed property reports, and invoicing. They assist with the various needs of the Business Office, including year-end processing and reporting requirements.

Job Duties

* Serve as back-up cashier.

* Answer phone calls and serve students as they contact the Bursar's office.

* Maintain third-party accounts to include posting to student accounts, billing, invoicing the third parties, and reconciling the accounts to finance monthly.

* Post and bill to third-party bookstore charges.

* Record deposits from Kingsport, Elizabethton, and Gray in cashbook.

* Maintain the online cashbook and record entries daily.

* Post checks when received from the Dual Enrollment office.

* Close and feed student payment plan batches.

* Post grant payments.

* Complete unclaimed property task to include the following:

o Research uncashed checks on bank website (including payroll checks).

o Compile list of uncashed checks.

o Mail letters and indemnity bonds to students and employees to have checks reissued.

o Initiate the JV to move the clearing account when applicable.

o Apply voided checks to students who have a balance.

o Reconcile unclaimed property clearing account.

o Prepare electronic file and funds disbursement to State of Tennessee for unclaimed property each year.

* Adjust accounts for approved refund appeals.

* Reconcile all clearing accounts monthly.

* Process student refunds from aging analysis report on a weekly basis.

* Serve as back-up for closing and feeding payment plan batches, accounts receivable report process, collection letter process, running Touch-Net e-Bills, and posting foundation checks.

* Assist with the write-offs of student accounts.

* Make appropriate journal entries, as needed.

* Assists Fiscal Services Coordinator and Bursar as needed.

* Complete other assignments as directed by supervision.

Minimum Qualifications

* Associate degree or higher in Business or Accounting from an accredited institution.
* Two (2) or more years of accounting experience to include working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
* Professional office or customer service experience.
* History of working independently on projects that require attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience with Banner software.
* Experience with TouchNet Cashiering or other cashiering software.
* Experience with cash handling.
* Experience with computer document management, digital imaging, online banking, and credit card banking transactions.
* Higher education experience.
* Conversational ability or fluency in a second language.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

* Technology Skills: MS Office suite; videoconferencing software; digital records management systems; general operating systems and data information systems.

Additional notes
* Will be expected to participate in flexible schedules including evening hours, coordinating with coworkers during the beginning of semesters and other high traffic office times.
