SummaryThe Regional Safety Manager plans, implements, and conducts preventative care, safety, and compliance training programs. This position's area of responsibility will be the Southwest region, primarily Northern and Southern California and will report to the Sr. Director of Human Resources & Environmental Health & Safety.

Job Responsibilities & RequirementsResponsibilities:
  • Compiles and keeps all required job site safety records, safety manuals, SDS, and accident forms that are required by contracts, insurance companies, and relevant governing agencies.

  • Conducts regular on-site inspections of construction projects and active manufacturing facilities.

  • Observes workplace conditions and makes necessary recommendation for corrective actions regarding health and safety.

  • Enforces safety policy and procedure and administers discipline when necessary.

  • Submits daily, weekly, and monthly reports.

  • Oversees and works with regional area superintendents and project managers to record weekly job site safety meetings. Attends to give feedback and presentations.

  • Reviews and investigates accidents, incidents or serious injuries occurring and notify the Director, Global Environmental Health & Safety and management of pertinent details.

  • Carefully analyze reports from accident investigations to ascertain root cause and corrective action needed.

  • Reviews and discusses insurance inspectors' periodic reports.

  • Reviews and recommends continued training of employees in safe and efficient work methods.

  • Assists employees to understand OSHA regulations and standards, including guidance on handling OSHA compliance, inspections, and citations.

  • Coordinates with Director and safety personnel as it pertains to worker's compensation and other safety issues. Communicate and manage claims with corporate safety personnel with focus on early Return to Work efforts.

  • Evaluates hazardous conditions and practices and develops hazard control practices and programs.

  • Guides and assists project personnel to ascertain critical safety issues and health problems.

  • Works with trade unions and construction managers to promote goals and objectives in the health and safety area that affect the company's business.

  • Assesses new developments in the health and safety field that may have application to the company's operations and make recommendations to the Director, Global Environmental Health & Safety.

  • Keeps apprised of developments in federal, state and city safety laws likely to affect the company.

  • Works with the Superintendents, Project Managers and Director, Global Environmental Health & Safety to protect company interests as it relates to safety and risk management.

  • Other duties as assigned related to safety and worker's compensation.

  • Work performed in the field at various operating job sites, as well as in an office environment.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety and Health or related topic preferred; additional, equivalent work experience may be substituted for the degree requirement.

  • Experience in a safety role within the construction industry required; knowledge of construction practices and terminology.

  • Working knowledge of life-safety codes, OSHA, and other regulatory agencies.

  • Current OHSA 30 Construction and OSHA 510 certificates.

  • A thorough knowledge of all trades within construction required; experience interfacing with unionized and/or trade workers and superintendents highly preferred.

  • Strong organization and people skills.

  • Strong verbal, written, analytical, and organizational skills; requires the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management, utilizing persuasive skills.

  • Position demands maturity, confidentiality, and the ability to implement improvements in safety.

  • Ability to develop procedures and training tools for increased efficiency.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel

  • CHST, OHST, or CSP certifications preferred.

  • Prior experience working on high-rise buildings as a Safety Manager or Consultant highly preferred.

  • Experience within the glass and glazing industry highly preferred.
