Job Description

Cal State LA University Auxiliary Services, Inc. (UAS)

Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm; Exempt position. This position is eligible for benefits. This is not a hybrid position.

Position Summary:

Reconcile general ledger and sub-ledger to ensure accurate records. Reconciling the company's bank statements; fixing assets and maintaining depreciation schedule; maintaining financial reporting, loan amortization, and investment reconciliation.

Essential Functions:

  • Prepares journal entries for distribution to the general ledger.
  • Responsible for various subsidiary ledgers as required (i.e., fixed Assets/Depreciation, payroll posting, inventories, and accounts receivables.
  • Reconcile Bank statements and investment accounts
  • Reconcile fixed asset and depreciation schedules.
  • Generate and distribute monthly financial reports and review divisions and stakeholders.
  • Assists in the reconciliation of the balance sheet.
  • Assist with various month-end closing journal entries, such as grants receivable/revenue, ensure the accuracy of journal entries, and submit journal entries to the accounting manager for timely review.
  • Assist with financial and compliance audits.
  • Assist with the Annual budget process.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • General knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Office methods and procedures; statistical and mathematical presentation of data.
  • Advanced proficiency with current word processing and spreadsheet software programs, query tools, integrated financial systems, and/or other types of records management systems.
  • Ability to interpret and follow instructions and policy guidelines.
  • Analyze financial and statistical data and draw conclusions.
  • Utilize problem-solving techniques.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Communicate effectively with others inside and outside the unit, including conveying technical information to non-accountants.

Education and Experience

  • Equivalent to a bachelor's degree with a major in accounting or a closely related field OR a combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, or a related field.
  • 3 to 5 years of previous general accounting or business experience.
  • An understanding of general accounting concepts, such as debits, credits, accruals, and refunds.
  • A courteous, professional demeanor and excellent customer service skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience with account reconciliations (i.e., bank and balance sheet accounts).
  • Experience with month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Experience in POS systems and accounting software (preferably PeopleSoft).

The Accountant must demonstrate an interest or ability in working in a multicultural/multiethnic environment.
