We currently have an exciting opportunity in our Finance department. This position specifically islocated in Norfolk, Virginia. We are looking for aSenior Accountant.

  1. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND PURPOSE

This position will include the following functions:

  • Ensures the integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying, consolidating, and entering transactions
  • Organizes and coordinates the general ledger month-end close process and ensures deadlines are met
  • Reconciles account balances, intercompany activity and bank statements; resolves discrepancies
  • Maintains and reconciles fixed asset system
  • Performs other duties related to tax, insurance and compliance.

  1. POSITION DEMANDS

Typically has a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business related field and a minimum of 4 years of relevant accounting or financial reporting experience. Professional designation or MBA a plus. Previous accounting/financial role for a government contractor, a plus. Strong mathematical ability to include algebraic formulas is a must. Intermediate-level Microsoft Excel experience is required. Deltek CostPoint experience, a plus. Knowledge and understanding of US GAAP, SOX and cost principles of FAR, DFARS, and CAS. Familiarity with large database driven financial control systems such as Costpoint, SAP or Oracle preferred. Excellent analytical, conceptual, communication and interpersonal skills. Strong initiative and ability to manage competing priorities; willing to work evenings and weekends when necessary.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects or controls, and to talk and hear. The noise level in this environment is usually moderate.

  1. WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to the Manager of Accounting. Maintains internal contact with Accounting, Purchasing/Procurement, Production, NASSCO and GD. External contacts include suppliers, audit firms, tax authorities and government agencies.

  1. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists in providing GD Corporate, NASSCO management, and internal finance community accurate and timely financial results of company operations.
  • Ensures accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year end close.
  • Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare entries to generate ledger accounts and documents business transactions.
  • Balances accounts by verifying, allocating, posting, reconciling transactions and resolving discrepancies.
  • Coordinates general ledger monthly close process and escalates issues to the Manager of Accounting and Controller.
  • Reviews and approves Accounts Payable vouchers and supports the Account Payable Analysts with day-to-day issues.
  • Maintains the fixed asset system, SAGE FAS, coordinates periodic inventory, and books all related entries such as initial capitalization, depreciation, sales and disposals of assets.
  • Assists in preparation of management cost reports and regulatory reports required by DCAA.
  • Serves as primary contact for tax-related requests and insurance coverage questions and annual renew requests.
  • Ensures internal controls are functioning properly and ensures compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley 404.
  • Prepares for audits and assists in coordinating with internal/external auditors to ensure completion of timely audit.
  • Performs other duties as required to support Accounting Department

  1. ACCOUNTABILITY

Financial reporting is accurate and timely. Internal policies and controls are maintained, ensuring compliance with applicable policies and procedures. Accurate maintenance of general ledger and fixed asset system.

Regular, reliable attendance on-site is an essential function of the job. A credit check will be required for this position.
