Primary Responsibilities

The primary role and responsibility of the San Diego Highway Program Leader is to work with the Southern California Highway/Roads Market Sector Leader and the San Diego Area Program Manager to grow this practice in San Diego by identifying clients and associated opportunities and supporting the overall market sector throughout Southern California. By use of their own relationships and leveraging HDR's resources, this position will pursue and win highway and roadway projects in San Diego and will be responsible to manage and deliver highway and roadway projects with existing HDR resources.

In the role of Highway Business Class Lead, we'll count on you to:

  • Participate in delivery of project services to meet client expectations
  • Use relationships to win highway and roadway work with Caltrans District 11, County of San Diego, City of San Diego and surrounding cities..
  • Maintain and grow relationships with San Diego Highway and Roadway clients.
  • Supervise current highway staff in San Diego and recruit additional staff as needed to support growing workload
  • Take responsibility for area coordination, monitoring and improvement of technical competencies of business class staff and products to meet client needs and market drivers, all within direction and goals of business class plans
  • Collaborate on business class efforts with area operations, marketing and project management
  • Participate in business class practice and professional discipline groups, project teams and activities to continually improve standards and best practices, and implement effective quality assurance and quality control reviews
  • Participate in business class strategic planning, budgeting and plan implementation
  • Provide support to other Business Groups when highway and roadway services are needed
  • Perform other duties as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field
  • 10 years of experience
  • Committed to quality, improvement and HDR values
  • Maintains a professional or engineering registration in California and has related technical experience experienced in development and management of diverse teams
  • Works cooperatively with other area business class leaders, operations managers, technical directors and marketing managers on business class efforts
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

Preferred Qualifications

  • 20 years of experience
  • Experience as a project manager or contract manager for Caltrans District 11 or City of San Diego
  • Over 5 years of living in San Diego and currently living in San Diego
  • Actively engaged in professional or industry associations to enhance HDR technical expertise and brand
