THE OPPORTUNITY

The Director, Product Management is responsible for supporting a VP, Product Mgt./Head of Product line to ensure that all products offered within their assigned products drive business value for customer, while supporting Riskonnect's goals for revenue and retention both as independent product lines and as part of Riskonnect's Integrated Risk Management vision.

Responsibilities:

  • Driving product discovery, market research, and competitor research so that the product meets customer needs and provides value.
  • Driving innovation and new product development initiatives by analyzing the market and competition, and introducing emerging technologies, user interfaces, and robust capabilities into the products.
  • Communicating product vision and strategy to stakeholders and regularly reporting on the status of development and releases. Establishing alignment within the organization around required launch activities and providing regular updates on progress to internal stakeholder launch activities.
  • Responsible for communicating the voice of the market and customer (VOM and VOC) to their team and stakeholders.
  • Act as the prime mentor, coach, and decision-maker for your team.

  • Guides the team in creating product roadmaps, defining initiatives, epics, features and managing releases.
  • Managing proof of concepts, demo and trial environments and working closely with Sales and Professional Services to ensure a seamless transition of information through the client journey.
  • Sales enablement training. May conduct or may work with Product Marketing to conduct.
  • Making recommendations on product positions and pricing.
  • Define product value propositions for their assigned products.

Essential Skills and Requirements:

  • Education: A minimum of BS/BA in Finance, Risk Management, Business, Marketing, Computer Science, or an equivalent in working experience.
  • Experience: 10+ years' experience in product management positions with a minimum of 5 years' experience leading a team. The ideal candidate will have experience of managing a team of professionals with demonstrated success in delivering product projects on a large scale and in a complex business setting. Must be familiar with Lean Agile and Pragmatic Product Management. The Director should have a background working within the Insurance or Claims software industry focusing across Insurers, TPAs, or corporate risk management.
  • Technical Skills: The Director must have a basic understanding of technical architecture and development practices. Experience with AHA and JIRA is required.
  • Analytical Skills: The Director will engage in research and strategy formulation with other departments, emphasizing collaboration with the sales and marketing departments. They must possess analytical skills that ensure accurate interpretation of research information and accurate formulation of the most suitable product approaches and strategies.
  • Administrative Skills: The Director is responsible for managing releases following a structured playbook.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential. The position involves communication both up and down the organization, to clients and to prospects. The Director will regularly be required to make presentations to stakeholders and must, possess communication skills that enable them to clearly present, articulate, and defend their findings and recommendations to the stakeholders a way that they can relate to and easily understand. The position will involve regular and constant presentations to all collaborating product and development team members, clients, and key internal stakeholders. These presentations should not only be verbally engaging but also visually engaging. As such, the Sr. Director must have high proficiency in various tools including PowerPoint and Visio.
  • Interpersonal/People Skills: The Director must have both strong interpersonal and people skills. Interpersonal skills will facilitate smooth collaboration between multiple departments and eliminate unnecessary delays. This will ensure that all function areas collaborate successfully so that new features and products are executed promptly, efficiently, and effectively. People skills allow the Director to generate excitement for the visions and goals and convince people to follow them. People skills make an individual easy to relate to and makes team members delighted and ready to follow directives.
  • Leadership Qualities: The Director must demonstrate excellent administrative capabilities with an ability to continuously drive results. The position is also one of immense pressure and must have the ability to navigate complex situations and tasks with calmness and composure.
  • Collaboration: This is a highly collaborate role. The Director must collaborate with every department in the organization to perform their duties. The Sr. Sr. Director also works closely with the business's other departmental Directors to align their vision and objectives (OKRs) with the product plan and roadmap and to ensure that their consolidated vision is in line with the core business values.
  • Strategy: As a Director in the Product Management/Development organization, it is expected that they play a leading role in the creation and execution of product strategies for their assigned portfolio and to also assist other department team members in developing product strategies and product plans.
