SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Payroll Analyst supports the payroll and accounting department compliance for all vendor and payroll multi-state, local and federal tax payments and returns, bank and general ledger reconciliations, worker compensation and other audits related to payroll transactions, and on-going month-end, quarterly and year-end organizational reporting. This position is employed by an affiliated company of Patriot Rail.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for accurate review of all payroll tax payments and returns for local, state and federal tax accounts for multiple entities and locations; including but is not limited to 940, 941, CT-1, DC-10, W2, W-3, State filings, etc.
  • Daily log maintenance and reconciliation for HSA, Voya & PNC bank transactions
  • Collaborate with the Accounting department for bank and general ledger reconciliations
  • Prepare reports for audits, departmental statistics, and business support
  • Research and respond to IRS & RRB notifications concerning tax filings
  • Establish new tax authority accounts when necessary (SUTA, SIT)
  • Contribute to payroll process centralization, standardization, and improvement initiatives
  • Maintain Business process documentation for all responsible items
  • Perform payroll close activities as necessary
  • Assist with additional payroll-related tasks as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate or Bachelor degree in business related field preferred
  • 3+ years payroll tax filing experience is strongly preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; advanced skill in Excel is a MUST
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to maintain highest confidentiality level
  • Strong attention to detail, with outstanding analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • General knowledge of multi state tax return filing, payments, and accounting principles
  • Friendly and proven ability to work cross-functionally
  • Valid Driver's License

* Effective data analysis, able to identify discrepancies, errors and opportunities for optimization in tax calculations and reporting

* Clear communication skills for providing instructions and directions

* Strong reasoning skills for problem-solving and troubleshooting

* Ethical conduct, upholding high ethical standards and confidentiality in handling sensitive payroll and tax information

* Effective time management to prioritize tasks and manage activities efficiently

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Primarily office-based, with occasional travel to railroads, facilities, warehouses, or outdoor environments. May involve sitting, standing, walking, handling objects, lifting, and occasional stooping or kneeling.
