Job Description
As a member of the Global Real Estate & Facilities (GREF) team - this position will be responsible for maintaining the function and aesthetics of assorted vivaria, including aquariums, paludariums, and terrariums, assisting with the day-to-day horticultural operations of The Spheres or Redmond Greenhouse, and other horticultural aspects of Amazon's Seattle-based Corporate Headquarters. This includes maintenance of vivarium life systems and aquarium management, as well as interior plant installations. The successful candidate is a self-starter who must be comfortable operating on both strategic and tactical levels, simultaneously acting as an internal ambassador, educator, and implementer.

The optimal candidate is an experienced and vibrant professional who excels within an entrepreneurial culture - providing vision, leadership, and communication - but not afraid to dive into details. Having passion and in-depth knowledge of the horticultural world is critical. This individual also has experience in maintaining high quality interior plant displays.

Essential Functions:
Clean and troubleshoot mechanical and biological filtration systems, recirculating pumps, UV sterilizers, & carbon dioxide delivery systems
Water quality testing and chemistry
Monitor livestock for signs of stress, disease, and overall health and vitality
Regular water changes and cleaning of viewing surfaces
Clean the exterior of the aquarium
Removal and addition of plant material
Aesthetic adjustments to the wood and stone hardscape
Perform general horticulture maintenance, including watering, planting, weeding, irrigation, pest control, and pruning, under direction of Horticulturists and/or Amazon Staff
Assist Horticulturists with horticulture projects such as terrariums, living walls, propagation, etc.
Assist with the cultivation and transfer of plant material to and from the Spheres and other locations
Collaborate with Horticulturists and Amazon staff on interior horticulture projects as needed
Assist with plant procurement and acquisitions
Ability to work weekends and be on call for off-hours emergencies.

Other Functions:
Carry out other duties as assigned by JLL supervisors

General Requirements
Essential Physical Capabilities:
Meet highest attendance and punctuality requirements
Operate personal computer, software as appropriate for project, and all other office equipment
Comfortable working at heights of over 10 m.
Ability to lift 50 pounds
Ability to work under different climatic conditions

Essential Knowledge and Skills:
Knowledge of aquatic plants and tropical fish
Basic knowledge of tropical plants, plant nutrition, and managing water quality
Ability to recognize plant pests and disease issues
Ability and interest in multi-tasking
Interact with employees, visitors, and contractors with poise and diplomacy
Apply principles of rational systems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
Interpret instructions in written, oral, and diagrammatic or schedule form
Possess initiative to assume additional responsibilities
Experience with troubleshooting
Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines
Advanced competence with a variety of software including MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, and other requested software programs
Communicate effectively both verbally and written
Possess excellent grammar and proofreading abilities
Read and comprehend e-newspapers, periodicals, journals, manuals, dictionaries, and thesaurus

Experience:
Aquarium and terrarium maintenance experience
Understanding of basic water chemistry, pH, and nitrogen cycles

Education:
Bachelor's degree in biology or related field preferred
Certification or Associate's Degree in a related field or equivalent experience
Minimum 2 years' experience in horticulture, aquaculture, or greenhouse plant production

Working Environment:
Indoors - 90%
Outdoors - 10%
