Job Description

The Medical Coder is responsible for properly coding documentation for appropriate reimbursement. Sequences codeswith an eye towards compliance and optimal reimbursement.

As a Medical Coder you will:

  • VERIFY AND ASSIGNS CODES TO DIAGNOSES AND PROCEDURES ACCORDING TO ICD-10 CM, CPT ANDINTERNAL CODING GUIDELINES WITH A HIGH DEGREE OF ACCURACY: Contacts physicians and other healthcareproviders to clarify diagnoses and procedures. Sequence codes accurately for optimal reimbursement. Provideseducation to physicians and ancillary staff on appropriate documentation needs for coding.
  • EDUCATION AND INSERVICES: Participates in coding in-services and other programs to ensure skills are fresh and up[1]to-date.
  • ENSURES QUALITY AND QUANTITY OF WORK IN ORDER TO MEET PRODUCTIVITY STANDARDS: Ensuresaccurate interpretation of medical records to complete daily medical coding for primary care charges and specialistcharges are accurate and in compliance with all federal, state and local laws and regulations.
  • Works with collaboratively AR (Accounts Receivable) to resolve coding denials

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma or GED (required)
  • 2 year / Associate's Degree (preferred))
  • Combination of relevant education and experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Vocational / Technical Degree (Preferred)

Certification / Licensure / Registration:

  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC)or Certified Coding Specialists (CCS) (required)

Experience and Skills:

  • 2-4 years of Medical Coding experience (required for employees hired after 7/1/2017)
  • 2-4 years working knowledge of medical terminology, basic coding skills including familiarity with ICD-10 and CPT coding(required for employees hired after 7/1/2017)
  • 1 year Epic experience (preferred)
  • Required Skills: basic computer skills, excellent organization skills, demonstrated high degree of coding accuracy, excellent data entry skills
  • 1 year of cardiology experience required
