Your Role

The Corporate Citizenship-Sustainability team sets environmental strategy, standards and targets, collects and analyzes environmental data, conducts environmental reporting (including greenhouse gas inventory and climate-related risk/resilience), and oversees mitigation, adaptation and climate leadership work along Blue Shield's value chain. The Corporate Citizenship, Principal- Sustainability will report to the Director of Sustainability. In this role you will lead the design, implementation and learning for a portfolio of innovation-focused sustainability programs, focusing on healthcare delivery mitigation and climate resilience, as well as lead internal climate leadership and change management to educate and empower employees around sustainability. Your Work

In this role, you will:

  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of Corporate Citizenship programs focused on sustainability - adaptation, mitigation, climate leadership and impact reporting
  • Lead relationship management with key stakeholders like providers, community-based organizations and/or vendors in one or more key sustainability programs; serve as a subject matter expert and program spokesperson
  • Facilitate storytelling with communications and other business units to elevate the company's reputation by articulating the value of our Corporate Citizenship-Sustainability efforts to key stakeholders
  • Lead internal and/or external stakeholder engagement
  • Lead program evaluation and reporting through data collection, analysis and visualization to measure impact and progress towards goals and benchmarks
  • Drive progress on corporate sustainability goals including but not limited to healthcare delivery decarbonization and climate resilience
  • Develop and lead innovation through sustainability opportunities internally and externally through partnership, cultivation of financial investment opportunities and/or aligning sustainability work to enterprise affordability, quality and equity work
  • Ensure comprehensive measurement, reporting and evaluation of sustainability programs, including data collection, analysis, and visualization
  • Design and lead employee education, engagement and change management efforts to support corporate sustainability goals
  • Lead other sustainability work as needed, including zero waste and Scope 1 and 2 mitigation work



Your Knowledge and Experience

  • Requires a college degree or equivalent experience and minimum 10 years of prior relevant experience
  • Requires building a complex portfolio of projects and programs for highly visible programs
  • Requires superior analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Requires mastery level knowledge of a Corporate Citizenship-Sustainability program area typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience
  • Requires subject matter expertise within a Corporate Citizenship-Sustainability program area.
  • Requires project management experience
  • Requires knowledge and experience in healthcare.
  • Requires successful track record in design and implementation of innovative programs, preferred in sustainability space
  • Requires healthcare data familiarity and literacy with the ability to create cost-benefit/social return on investment or financial analyses of sustainability opportunities
  • Payer and/or Clinical experience a plus, particularly in sustainability

Pay Range:

The pay range for this role is: $ 136400.00 to $ 204600.00 for California.

Please note that this range represents the pay range for this and many other positions at Blue Shield that fall into this pay grade. Blue Shield salaries are based on a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, location (California, Bay area, or outside California), and current employee salaries for similar roles.
