What You'll Do
NPT's asset portfolio includes many investments that are subject to Unrelated Business Taxable Income (UBTI) considerations. The Tax Specialist role is designed to oversee and be responsible for the compilation, organization, monitoring, and completeness of NPT's UBTI exposure.
Position requires a hybrid work model with three days in-office per week. Salary range: $70,000 - $80,000.
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Track NPT's investments that are subject to UBTI
  • Ensure K-1s are received for all investments that are taxed as a partnership.
  • Review K-1s for Federal and state disclosures, including forms 8621(PFICs), 1065s, 8865s, 5471s.
  • Partner with external accountants to ensure all K-1s and necessary information are reflected in NPT's Form 990 & 990T.
  • Partner with other members of the Finance team to ensure that required tax forms are filed properly and timely.
  • Assist with the charging and collection of taxes due on behalf of NPT donor accounts.
  • Liase with external accountants for ad hoc UBTI and other tax questions that arise with internal and external partners.
  • Address any UBTI questions / discrepancies and resolve the issues in a timely manner.
  • Prepare monthly journal entries and reconciliations to ensure the general ledger is accurately reflecting the organization's tax payments made on behalf of each entity to multiple jurisdictions.
  • Assist with special projects, as needed.

What You Bring:
  • Working knowledge of various financial accounting software packages
  • Excellent analytical skills and demonstrated ability for attention to detail, to analyze problematic situations and to prioritize projects.
  • Strong time management, highly organized and able to meet deadlines while balancing competing deliverables.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Must be able to function independently as well as in a team environment.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting
  • Relevant experience in finance or accounting
  • Knowledge of IRS Form 990 and 990-T, including UBTI implications is preferred.
  • Tax compliance experience, preferably with Big 4 or regional accounting firm would be a plus.
Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
