Occupational Health and Wellness Nurse - 3rd shift

Under the general direction of a designated physician, provides occupational health nursing and medical services consistent with Smith & Nephew policies, guidelines, and objectives for approximately 750 employees in Memphis and support North America Facilities as needed. Reporting directly to the Occupational Health and Wellness Manager.

What will you be doing?

  • Complies with policy, procedures, written standing orders, protocols and medical directives as required by Smith & Nephew and the Tennessee Nurse Practice Act.
  • Provide initial assessment to ensure appropriate emergency care for employee's injuries and illnesses and provides treatment according to established protocols and refers appropriately.
  • Under supervision of a physician, administers medications and performs various minor treatments or therapies for injured or ill employees
  • Documents nursing care and medical management to assist evaluation of the total health care provided to employees.
  • Collaborates with other members of the HSE team in developing approaches to resolution of problems affecting employee health.
  • Reviews pre-employment and work physical assessments to identify conditions which may affect the workers ability to perform the job and refers appropriately.
  • Conducts training as needed to maintain alignment with HSE training requirements.
  • Maintain employee health records in a safe confidential manner in accordance with the company's and government standards
  • Maintains accurate clinical records, utilizing approved medical, nursing, and statistical formats, including computer technology.
  • Maintains the OSHA 300 log according to government regulations.
  • Completes reports and communicates data to appropriate personnel.
  • Effectively represents the occupational health dept. to management, employees, and outside agencies.
  • Engages in a supportive role as assigned in special projects, program delivery.
  • Establishes and promotes collaborative relationships with essential community resources, including consulting physicians.
  • Development and implementation of Wellness programs based on appropriate risk profiles, needs, and assessments.
  • Supports the delivery of wellness communication and on-site wellness programming.
  • Provides health education and counseling to employees regarding acute and chronic health problems within the scope of nursing practice.
  • Provides respirator fit testing and appropriate medical surveillance in accordance with company and government standards.
  • Assists in developing and administering budget.
  • Selects, orders, and maintains supplies and equipment consistent with the needs of the occupational health program, in a cost-effective manner.
  • Acquires knowledge of the occupational hazards and treatment for exposures for assigned locations.
  • Ability to work off hours and be on call as necessary.
  • Other job duties and responsibilities as assigned by HSE Manager.

What will you need to be successful?

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or equivalent
  • Certification in Occupational Health Nursing preferred

Experience

  • Minimum three years occupational nursing experience in a manufacturing environment.

Licenses/ Certifications:

  • Current Registered Nurse license in the state of Tennessee required.

Physical Demands: This job will not normally require excessive amounts of physical exertion. It will require periodic standing during presentations, and a significant amount of walking and sitting, and use of eyes and hands for assessing patients and using the computer. Some stooping, crouching, reaching, and twisting may be necessary on occasion. Employee should be able to lift or carry a minimum of 50 pounds for approximately 2 minutes.
