Target hiring range for this position will be between $67,978-$84,973 per year. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.

Job Summary:

Provides complex scientific and technical leadership in determining research priorities and the plan, design and execution of research projects ensuring that programs of investigation meets specified objectives. Plans, develops and implements new experiments and protocols to support research studies and maximize/extend lab capabilities. Sets-up and troubleshoots custom protocols and conducts independent research techniques, procedures and experiments. Co-authors scientific papers for presentation and publication. May manage lab employees, and develop and administer budgets, grants, and/or administrative procedures. Ensures adherence to all associated rules and regulations.

More specifically, we are seeking a highly organized and motivated individual to join the Aging Brain Circulation (ABC) Lab as a Research Lab Manager. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in scientific research, excellent managerial skills, and a passion for driving innovation in the field.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Manage day-to-day operations of the research laboratory, including overseeing lab staff, equipment, and resources.
  • Ensures that lab staff workload is appropriate and assigns study tasks and delegation in tandem with the PI to confirm the bandwidth for each study team member is appropriately met.
  • Identify & secure needed resources.
  • Create, implement, monitor, & update project plans
  • Track tasks/deliverables to ensure timelines, milestones &/or goals are attained.
  • Collaborate with the PI to develop and implement research protocols and procedures.
  • Develop and maintain SOP and manuals for training and data collection.
  • Coordinate research projects and ensure that they are completed on time and within budget.
  • Prepare reports and presentations on recruitment and retention of study participants.
  • Maintain lab safety standards and ensures that all study activities are completed by strictly following Good Clinical Practices (GCP) & all current local, state, & federal laws, regulations, guidance, policy & procedure developed by the NU Institutional Review Board (IRB), Food & Drug Administration (FDA) Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), & the International Conference on Harmonization (ICH).
  • Manage and facilitate lab related meetings
  • Manage inventory and order supplies as needed.
  • Works with the PI's Research Administrator (RA) to manage and review study budgets, participant payments, study charges, and study team finances
  • provides oversight to all study-start up processes including but not limited to the building of StudyTracker, the confirmation of the MCQT review, EDW exceptions, Data Security Plans, IRB submissions, receipt of study supplies, storage of study supplies, study assignments for study team, and any possible plans to work with the Clinical Research Unit (CRU).
  • Provide oversight for all regulatory documents and participant documents to ensure compliance with the protocol and all its amendments
  • Manages implementation of human resource programs, policies, procedures & talent management lifecycle & related mentoring & training.
  • Oversees recruitment & selection process; Performance Excellence plan for each employee; & merit increase process.
  • Manages & provides consultation regarding complex performance problems & issues; administers leaves; approves timesheets & oversees completion of annual staff Conflict of Interest survey.
  • Guides lab staff in conducting research.

Administration

  • Identifies and/or acquires new equipment and/or facilities.
  • Acts as liaison between sponsoring agencies, collaborating organizations and/or other research and/or educational institutions.
  • Ensures adherence to all current local, state, and federal regulatory requirements, laws and research protocols, and oversees all required filings, approvals, documentation and reports.

Finance

  • Creates and/or manages research budget which may include deciding on and approving expenditures of funds based on budget.
  • Monitors accounts.
  • Negotiates prices and specifications with vendors.
  • Purchases supplies, materials, equipment and services.
  • Ensures appropriate allocation and compliance.

Supervision

  • Trains, directs, assigns duties to & may supervise lab EEs, students, residents &/or fellows.
  • Provides instruction to lab users on technically complex procedures, equipment & instruments.

Minimum Qualifications: (Education, experience, and any other certifications or clearances)

  • Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in a scientific major or related; OR appropriate combination of education and experience and 8 years' lab/bench or other relevant experience required; OR
  • Successful completion of a full course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a master's or higher degree in a scientific major or related; OR appropriate combination of education and experience and 6 years' lab/bench or other relevant experience.
  • Supervisory or project management experience required.

Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities.)

  • Prior experience in running clinical research studies for at least 2 years.
  • Knowledge regarding Good Clinical Practice and the regulatory requirements for starting and conducting clinical research studies.
  • Familiarity with IRB submissions (both local and central IRB's).
  • Experience over-seeing or training new hires.
  • Must complete NU's IRB CITI training before interacting with any participants & must re-certify every 3 years.

Preferred Qualifications: (Education and experience)

  • Preferred knowledge regarding clinical research within Neurology.
  • Supervisory or project management experience, preferably in a research/academic setting
  • Knowledge of the FDA approved clinical treatments within the field
