Fermilab's Infrastructure Services Division is looking for Summer Groundskeepers (On-Call Employee)

This is a seasonal position (On-Call) for April 2023 - September 2023

You Will:

  • Mow, weed whip and repair turf site-wide
  • Assist in planting, watering, mulching, and pruning of trees and shrubs using hand pruners and pull saw.
  • Assist in exterior bed care maintenance including planting, mulching, watering and weed removal
  • Perform general maintenance and cleaning of buildings, trucks, and equipment
  • Assist with minor roadway/parking lot repairs and traffic control when needed
  • Assist with restriping asphalt surfaces: Stop lines, crosswalks, and parking spots
  • Perform site maintenance which includes cleaning up downed trees, small limbs, garbage, and debris
  • Assist in job requests that are received from employees lab-wide.


We Are Looking For:

  • A candidate who is at least 18 years of age with a valid driver's license and is currently enrolled in high school or college/university courses.
  • Basic knowledge of small hand tools, gas powered tools, mowers, and various lawn care equipment
  • Skills in landscape maintenance and exterior bed care
  • A self-motivated candidate, who is detail oriented, organized, can safely multi-task, follow directions, and work efficiently alone or as part of a crew.

Physical Activity and Work Conditions Human Factors

  • Physical Activity will include lifting 20 pounds and consist of predominantly outdoor work
  • Work will consist of a variety of weather conditions such as heat, sun, rain and wind
  • Biological hazards such as mosquitoes, bees, wasps, poison ivy, chiggers and ticks
