Job Description

Summary:

Under the supervision of the Lifespan Risk Services (LRS) Director of Insurance and Business Operations position requires a variety of supervisory and business processing skills. Working closely with LRS Director Insurance & Operations to develop and maintain an intimate knowledge of the Lifespan*s self-insurance and commercial program the supervisor will endeavor to meet LRS* operational and underwriting risk profile objectives. Responsibilities include: Supervising the coordination of self-insurance clinical staff on-boarding and maintaining clinical staff change processes; working with internal and external customers to assist with insurance contracts certifications and claim history requests; understanding Lifespan insurance program in order to maintain and ensure the accuracy of Lifespan*s underwriting/policy management system and to assist internal and external customers underwriting questions; work with insurance coordinator service staff and commercial insurance broker to oversee insurance renewals and policy management processes and a variety of special projects.

Supervise duties of Insurance Underwriting Service Coordinator to accomplish commercial and self-insurance responsibilities.

Working closely with LRS Director Insurance & Operations to develop and maintain an intimate knowledge of the Lifespan*s self-insurance and commercial program the supervisor will endeavor to meet LRS* operational and underwriting risk profile objectives. This will include the Lifespan Malpractice Plan and all lines of insurance.

Responsible for supervising and assisting with the commercial insurance and self-insurance processes which includes maintaining the insurance renewal calendar; working cooperatively with other Lifespan departments and affiliates to gather information; corresponding and exchanging information with Lifespan*s insurance broker and actuary; preparing and reviewing application submissions with insurance coordinator staff; and obtaining signatures and submitting insurance applications in a timely manner. On an on-going basis throughout the year supervisor will maintain excel spreadsheets to organize operational processes which are used for Insurance Director*s reference.

Utilizing Lifespan*s underwriting/policy management system coordinate the renewal Lifespan Malpractice Plan (LMP) application process for affiliated medical physician groups (MPG). Work with MPG*s business or practice manager(s) to ensure physician and advanced practice providers (e.g. nurse practitioners physician assistants etc.) are maintained in the underwriting/policy management system. Download information from underwriting/policy management system into excel to analyze and create meaningful reports.

Oversee self-insurance operational processes to ensure timely and accurate delivery of self-insurance program certificates and claim history responses which includes working with Lifespan*s Payor Credentialing Medical Staff and Physician Group practices.

Work with Physician Group practices and Lifespan organizational entities and respective departments to research underwriting coverage requests. Underwriting will include gathering and summarizing relevant information to assist LRS Director Insurance & Operations underwriting decisions.

Coordinating with Lifespan*s insurance broker to address commercial insurance certificates for events and other business operational purposes.

Work with Lifespan General Counsel*s attorneys to review and assist with insurance and indemnification provisions for Lifespan events and other business operational purposes.

Work with Loss Prevention team members to ensure the underwriting/policy management system collects relevant application data for underwriting and loss prevention purposes.

Working with LRS Insurance Director and LRS* outside general counsel on RISE policy and Indemnification Agreement documentation updates; maintaining current versions; and retiring and archiving documents. Coordinate and supervise the use of LMP and RISE forms and documents. Ensure the latest versions for all forms are maintained and organized - in an easy to find user friendly manner - on LRS* shared drive. Ensure lastest versions are utilized by LRS staff. Ensure latest forms are synchronized with versions maintained with Lifespan*s outside general counsel and the underwriting/policy management system. Work with Sr. Business Analyst to ensure document updates and changes are made within the underwriting/policy management system.

Work closely with LRS claims analysts to verify provider coverage and provide supporting documentation as necessary.

Work closely with LRS* Loss Prevention team Claims team Sr. Business Analyst and administrative support staff.

Provide backup services for supervised coordinator and administrative support staff when such staff is unavailable or is need of assistance.

Assist the LRS Director Insurance and Business Operations with gathering information for presentations.

Be familiar with Lifespan*s organizational structure its business its insurance program and its accounting and underwriting/policy management systems.

As directed participate in special projects requiring knowledge of department organization and LRS insurance program.

Must be able to utilize software programs such as Microsoft Word Outlook Excel and PowerPoint.

Perform other office support duties as necessary.

May assume regular responsibilities for recurring projects or programs requiring knowledge of department or corporate operations and the use of independent judgment.

Perform other related duties as required.

Other information:

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

Associates Degree in business Insurance Experience or the equivalent. Associates in Risk Management Claims or other insurance experience preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

At least five years* experience demonstrating strong analytical and excel skills and customer service and business support functions. Experience in an insurance or finance environment preferred.

Requires excellent organizational and detail management skills and ability to communicate effectively with a variety of customers including Lifspan leadership physicians and business managers.

Strong knowledge of Personal Computers with proficiency in Microsoft Office especially Excel.

Software applications required. Must have a positive attitude good organizational skills and ability to prioritize activities effectively.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Professional office environment. Work on computer for extended periods of time.

INDEPENDENT ACTION:

Work is performed under general supervision but the individual must be comfortable working independently and using independent judgment in a busy office environment. The individual refers specific problems to the LRS Director Insurance & Business Operations where clarification of departmental policies and procedures may be required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

Supervisory responsibility for up to 5 FTE
