Associate General Counsel (Multiple Positions) - Shopify (USA) Inc. (New York, NY)
Support business teams by negotiating strategic transactions and key partnership agreements, while identifying and mitigating critical legal risks. Regularly collaborate with legal team and with internal stakeholders, effectively guiding business strategies and communicating legal risk. Provide legal support on innovative new partner integrations and negotiate with some of the biggest companies in the world. Build trust with the internal business team, and show up for our clients both proactively, to ensure our business teams don’t run into problems, and reactively, when issues do come up. Advise on a spread of ecommerce features and launches in the B2B space. Counsel on projects for discovering Shopify merchants on third-party marketplaces worldwide. Advise on technology integrations with partners doing offline and native checkout experiences. Telecommuting permitted from anywhere in the U.S. up to 100% of the time.
SALARY: $282,100 – $310,310 base salary per year.
WORK SCHEDULE: 40 hours per week, M-F (9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.)
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Must have a J.D. or LL.B, or foreign equivalent. Must have a license to practice law in any common law province in Canada or any US state.
Must have 6 years of experience providing complex legal counsel to business clients or as in-house counsel.
Of the required experience, must have 3 years of experience with each of the following: Providing advice on corporate strategy and initiatives, regulatory risk assessment and management, commercial approaches for successful outcomes, and designing creative solutions to achieve business goals; Overseeing the selection, retention, management and evaluation of outside counsel; Drafting and negotiating complex legal agreements, such as strategic partnerships, software and other licensing arrangements, including those related to SaaS and other cloudbased services, API, SDK and other technology-related offerings; Experience with data issues; Leading a team of legal professionals; and Managing legal projects with multiple priorities, stakeholders and deadlines.
Travel to various locations throughout the U.S./ international required up to 5%.
Telecommuting permitted from anywhere in the U.S. up to 100% of the time.
