  • Associate's Degree and 4 years of experience in grounds care and maintenance, or
  • 6 years of grounds or maintenance related experience.
  • Valid Driver's License required

Minimum Education Qualification can be substituted with an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

Preferred qualifications:
* Ornamental Turf Pesticide (Technician certification)
* Knowledge of grounds equipment, maintenance and safety procedures

Work Hours
Normally scheduled Monday through Friday; however, may be required to work other shifts to include evenings and/or weekends. Schedule subject to change based upon department needs.
Compensation Starting salary is $43,646. A competitive benefit package is included. Special Instructions to Applicants

Class Summary
Incumbents coordinate, monitor, and lead the activities assigned for landscaping and grounds keeping activities.
Typical Essential Duties
  • In collaboration with campus superintendent coordinates the schedules and assigns work related to lawn and grounds maintenance activities; ensures that all operations are performed in accordance with applicable policies and procedures.
  • Based on assigned resources, develops and implements plans for snow and ice removal and salting, and trash disposal.
  • Coordinates and works with contractors to maintain grass, beds, shrubs, trees. Performs lawn and tree chemical applications. Acts as contract quality assurance.
  • Leads maintenance mechanic assistants, as needed, to maintain general landscape to include turf, beds, shrubs, trees.
  • Coordinates assigned resources to performs grounds maintenance and enhancement activities, to include planting trees, plants, and shrub; mowing and raking lawns and assigned spaces; and aerating and watering lawns.
  • Prepares and maintains records, and maintains and orders supplies as needed.
  • Plans and designs campus landscapes according to the vision of the College.
  • Operates equipment and machinery such as tractors, trucks, snow plows, forklifts, hedgers, and chainsaws.
  • Ensures all grounds related equipment is maintained to an acceptable level through mechanical troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance.
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of basic cleaning and grounds maintenance techniques;
  • Knowledge of applicable equipment, tools and cleaning chemicals;
  • Knowledge of basic training principles;
  • Knowledge of computers and related software applications;


Skills
  • Skilled in prioritizing and assigning work;
  • Skilled in cleaning and sanitizing facilities and equipment;
  • Skilled in performing landscape maintenance;
  • Skilled in handling and applying applicable cleaning chemicals;
  • Skilled in using applicable tools and equipment;
  • Skilled in monitoring and replenishing inventory;
  • Skilled in preparing records and logs;
  • Skilled in training staff on routine work methods;
  • Skilled in utilizing communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, and others sufficient to exchange or convey information.
Positions Supervised Physical Requirements
Positions in this class typically require: balancing, climbing, crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, hearing, kneeling, pulling, pushing, stooping, reaching, repetitive motion, standing, talking, visual acuity, and walking. The work is very heavy work which requires exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Incumbents may be exposed to hazardous physical conditions, such as, mechanical parts, electrical currents, and vibrations; atmospheric conditions, such as fumes, odors, gases, and poor ventilation; hazardous materials, such as chemicals, blood, and other bodily fluids; extreme temperatures; inadequate lighting; work space-related movement restrictions; intense noise; other environmental conditions, such as, challenging behaviors, imminent danger, and threatening environment.
