The AMS has three offices - our headquarters in Providence, Rhode Island; Mathematical Reviews in Ann Arbor, Michigan; and the Office of Government Relations in Washington, DC.

SUMMARY:

Provides administrative assistance to the Book Acquisitions Group to support book acquisition and publication.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provides administrative support to the Book Acquisitions Group.
  • Supports the Book Acquisitions Group to ensure manuscripts and manuscript reviews are delivered in a timely manner.
  • Communicates with book series committee members to support the timely assessment of submissions.
  • Assists with the preparation of project sheets and pricing models for the Book Project Review and Book Pricing meetings.
  • Prepares and issues book contracts using templates.
  • Completes all aspects of pre-production processing for designated books.
  • Assists with the preparation of descriptive marketing for book titles and series as needed.
  • Assists with the collection, analysis, and presentation of data relating to the book publishing program.
  • Assists with the handling of Proceedings series as needed.
  • Requests information and compiles data for the journal backlog report.
  • Maintains documentation for procedures and policies related to the Essential Functions.
  • Handles routine correspondence within and outside the organization.
  • Performs other or similar related duties as requested or assigned.

INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Works with other members of the Editorial Division, as well as with members of Electronic Prepress, Creative Services, Sales and Marketing, and Fiscal Departments as needed.
  • Maintains communications with authors, editorial committee members, and reviewers.

  • Must be organized, responsible, and able to work independently in a team environment.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential.
  • IT literate in a Windows environment, with a willingness to learn proprietary databases.
  • Holds a Bachelor degree or at least four years of relevant work experience.
