Title: Visitor Experience Associate

Exemption Status: Non-exempt

Department: Visitor Experience

Reports to: Manager, Visitor Experience and Visitor Experience Leads

Seasonal Part-time, approximately nine months (various shifts 8am- 8pm)

Position Overview:

  • Support all aspects of the visitor experience with on-site purchases related to admission, memberships, membership upgrades, tickets for visitor events and programs, and registrations for classes in the Joseph Regenstein, Jr. School of the Chicago Botanic Garden.
  • Interact with visitors using exceptional customer-service standards and address their needs promptly. Develop a proficiency in Garden information and literature and resources available and proactively and professionally answer questions and provide directions concerning classes, exhibitions, shows, and gardens.
  • Enhance the visitor experience by providing exceptional customer service.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a Visitor Experience associate at multiple sales and redemption areas, both outdoors and indoors, that support admission, membership, event ticket, and class sales. Handle all tasks efficiently, including the sale of admissions, new memberships, renewal of current members, database look-up, event ticket sales, and general information.
  • Work closely with Visitor Experience leads and manager to develop a proficiency in the ticketing software to support daily purchases of admissions, memberships, event ticket sales, and garden classes. Redeem tickets and memberships at designated redemption areas to ensure accurate visit statistics.
  • Assist in day-to-day operational procedures, including daily revenue reports, cash handling, and the opening and closing of all systems including the cash register and the computerized network.
  • Monitor visitor materials and displays in and around the admissions area. Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of each area.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Our ideal candidate will have the following:

  • A minimum of one year of experience in sales and customer service.
  • The ability to interact positively with all customers including members, donors, potential donors, and co-workers in a professional and friendly manner. A customer is defined as any person you come in contact with-in person, via the telephone, or email.
  • The flexibility to work at least one weekend day per week, some holidays, some evenings, and to flex hours when necessary for proper front-line coverage.
  • Experience with nonprofit membership and/or development a plus.
  • Microsoft Office skills.
  • Database software experience-Raiser's Edge and Galaxy preferred.
  • The ability to handle cash and credit card receipts with integrity.

Physical Demands:

Indoor and outdoor work position such as out on the Welcome Plaza, in the admission ticket booth and outdoors in other outdoor Garden areas. Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, listening, speaking, and keyboarding. Use of office equipment including computers, telephones, copiers, and scanners. Some requirements for lifting, pushing, or pulling items less than 30 pounds.
