Position Summary

The Assistant Principal role assists in the execution of the Charter School's vision and mission while establishing a positive, safe learning environment where students and Team Members achieve and thrive. Provide support in the coordination of educational, administrative, and counseling activities/services for students; encouraging social and emotional development through the achievement of academic and personal goals aligned with the AMIkids mission and authoring entity for the Charter School.

Essential Job Duties

  • Assist the principal in leading and cultivating an achievement culture of excellence for Team Members and students,
  • Serve as principal in the absence of the regular principal,
  • Assist the principal in the design and implementation of programs, based on current educational theory and research, to meet the specific needs of the school and its students,
  • Facilitate and evaluate, in assigned departments, the approved instructional program in a manner designed to maximize the cognitive and affective progress of each student,
  • Assist the principal in the acquisition and utilization of instructional supplies, equipment, and textbooks for the school,
  • Assist the principal in facilitating services for all students in the school including, but not limited to, those with special needs,
  • Participate, as requested, in school-level activities to design educational philosophy and goals which maximize student growth,
  • Assist the principal in overseeing the facility and grounds of the assigned school and makes recommendations about short-range and long-range needs,
  • Assist in the development of a schedule which maximizes the educational program for students and utilizes district resources to their greatest advantage,
  • Assist the principal in conducting an on-going assessment of the educational program in the assigned school, including the strengths and areas in need of improvement; the analysis of test results, attendance records, discipline reports; feedback from students, Team Members, administrators, and parents; and other formal and informal data,
  • Assist the principal in the recruitment, screening, background check and reference checks, selection, and coaching of personnel,
  • Support the new hire/recruiting process by properly completing job requisition, offer letter request, and other items as needed, and secure all the required paperwork,
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with certification guidelines,
  • Conduct new Team Member orientation. Ensure the signed Team Member Handbook acknowledgement/attestations have been completed,
  • Assist the Principal in coordinating Performance Appraisal process, including maintaining data in HRIS on-line systems.
  • Assist the principal in promoting on-going, two-way communications with relevant audiences (i.e., students, team members, parents, community residents) to enhance the educational program provided by the school,
  • Implement guidelines for proper student conduct in keeping with state law, charter school policy and practices in cooperation with the principal; and enforces discipline as necessary, according to due process rights of the students,
  • Attend and maintain appropriate crisis intervention/de-escalation training and certification as defined by state and contract requirements,
  • Attend and maintain CPR and First Aid certification by nationally recognized organization,
  • Prevent and intervene in youth altercations and incidents, using the authorized state mandated training methods,
  • Administer first aid and CPR during emergencies in accordance with National standards,
  • Maintain appropriate certification(s) and license(s),
  • Transport youth and may drive for other work-related tasks,
  • Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education, Training and Experience

  • Master's Degree in Education Leadership,
  • Minimum (3) three years related experience and/or training; 5+ years is preferred,
  • Hold and maintain state license in Educational Leadership, Administration and Supervision, or Educational Administration,
  • Prior School Administrator and/or Supervisor experience,
  • Effective communication (listening, verbal & written) and presentation skills,
  • Command of grades/subject specific content and theoretical knowledge of learning theory, including motivation, reinforcement, evaluation, and feedback techniques.
