Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced data architect to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in architecting robust data solutions while also providing support to our Business Intelligence (BI) team in data source development. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the design and implementation of cutting-edge data architectures while collaborating closely with business analysts and BI professionals to ensure the seamless delivery of actionable insights.
Responsibilities Include:
Data Architecture
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and translate them into scalable and efficient data architecture solutions
Design and implement data models, ensuring data integrity, accuracy, and optimal performance
Devise and maintain modern data architecture to grow the company's capabilities and advance data strategy
Assist with Internet of Things (IoT) system designs and digital twin solutions
Evaluate and recommend data storage solutions, considering security, scalability, and cost effectiveness
Develop and maintain documentation for data architecture, including data flow diagrams, models, and dictionaries
Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies to improve data architecture practices continuously
DevOps
Leverage Agile, CI/CD, and DevOps methodologies to deliver high-quality products
Implement DevOps pipelines, artifacts, and test plans in a repo-based framework
Automate and standardize cloud deployments through scripting and templates
Business Intelligence Support
Work closely with business intelligence analysts to understand reporting and analytics requirements
Develop data sources to support BI reporting, helping ensure data accuracy and reliability
Collaborate with the BI team to optimize and tune queries for improved performance
Troubleshoot and resolve data-related issues in collaboration with relevant stakeholders
Provide technical expertise in developing dashboards, reports, and other BI artifacts
Data Governance and Security
Develop, implement, and enforce data governance best practices to best ensure data quality, compliance, and security
Collaborate with IS leadership and security teams to implement and maintain data access controls and encryption mechanisms
Conduct regular audits to ensure adherence to data governance policies and standards
Collaboration and Communication
Work closely with business stakeholders, data scientists, and other teams to understand their data requirements
Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences, translating complex technical concepts into understandable terms
Participate in cross-functional meetings to gather insights and contribute to data-driven decision-making processes
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field
8 years of related work experience
Strong proficiency in data modeling, database design, and data warehouse architecture
Experience with DevOps methodologies, processes, and tools (agile, CI/CD, Azure DevOps, Repos, etc.)
Development experience using Azure or other cloud platforms
Solid understanding of data governance principles and practices
Ability to communicate technological concepts and details to various audiences
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and exceptional accuracy and attention to detail
Self-initiative and motivation, including proven history of, and passion for, continuous self-initiated learning
Exceptional client service
Strong organization and prioritization skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet project commitments
Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the future
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with serverless architectures, Azure Storage, Azure SQL DB/DW, Data Factory, Azure Stream Analytics, Azure Analysis Services, HDInsight, or AWS equivalents
Experience in API development, data integration, data quality and engineering, ELT and ETL processes
Experience integrating complex applications and data across a hybrid environment
Experience with ETL technologies such SSIS, DataStage, or Data Factory
Experience with data visualization tools such as SSRS, Power BI, Tableau, or Micro Strategy
Microsoft certifications are a plus
A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position can be based out of Barr's Ann Arbor, Bismarck, Denver, Duluth, Grand Rapids, Hibbing, Jefferson City, Minneapolis, or Salt Lake City offices.

Compensation:
The anticipated base salary range for this position is $105,000 - 130,000/year. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. Employees in this position may also be eligible for a discretionary cash bonus. Our compensation comes in more ways than traditional base salary, and we believe that when all those elements are combined, our compensation is a competitive part of the total value proposition of working at Barr.
