Position Summary

The role of the Vocational Instructor is to serve in the instruction and guidance of students within the appropriate grade or academic level. Responsible for adhering to recognized curriculum standards, and compliance with instructional guidelines as defined by AMIkids, Inc. and/or local school district.

Essential Job Duties

  • Motivate and guide students toward the successful accomplishment of established educational goals and objectives,
  • Effectively use of the Behavior Modification System by providing redirection and coaching to students who exhibit inappropriate behavior,
  • Assess and evaluate the academic needs of students,
  • Provide professional instruction and teaching to a diverse population of students, as appropriate to the specified course or discipline and academic level,
  • Research, select, prepare, and maintain appropriate educational development plans, materials, equipment, and resources for each student,
  • Maintain open communication for the development of effective working relationships with all staff, as well as external agencies and professionals,
  • Develop and maintain community relations and effective key customer and contractor contacts,
  • Develop a respectful, trusting and enthusiastic work environment that encourages innovative problem solving and creative youth development,
  • Act under the principals of professional conduct ethics, and AMIkids' values,
  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students their parents, as well as business and industry concerning student performance in the Vocational Training and Job Placement education program.
  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative relations with other employees, departments, and schools.
  • Maintain a current and accurate inventory of all equipment, tools, and supplies.
  • Calculate student scores and grades and submit students' final class/course grade(s) in a timely manner,
  • Coordinate student activities with the Lead Teacher, Director of Education, Program Manager, Director of Operations and/or Executive Director,
  • Prevent and intervene in youth altercations and incidents, using the authorized state mandated training methods,
  • Administer first aid and CPR during emergencies in accordance with the national standards,
  • Ensure all appropriate measures are in effect for special needs students,
  • Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education, Training and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, Associate or Bachelor's degree preferred,
  • Two (2) years relevant teaching/training experience,
  • Experience with working with at-risk kids a plus,
  • May be required to obtain and maintain appropriate crisis intervention and physical restraint training and certification as defined by state requirements,
