The Maine Military & Community Network, presents the 8th Annual Conference: Resiliency & Reintegration - Life in Transition. 

The keynote will be on the topic of moral injury delivered by Nancy Sherman, distinguished University Professor of Philosophy at Georgetown University. She was also the inaugural Distinguished Chair in Ethics at the United States Naval Academy. Dr. Sherman is widely known as the author of The Untold War, After War, Stoic Warriors and the Fabric of Character.

The day will consist of military and veteran informational and networking opportunities. After the morning keynote, there will be a panel of veterans and community members sharing their experiences of using the humanities as a mechanism for transition. Throughout the day, dozens of military service providers will be present to provide resources and opportunities.

Veteran Service Officers will be on site to help service members, veterans and family members get connected to the benefits and services for which they may be eligible. Awards will be presented to deserving individuals and groups who exemplify best practices and dedicated service to Maine service members, veterans and their families.

At noon, the Augusta Civic Center will provide a full hot lunch in the auditorium and at the same time, the Maine Military & Community Leadership Council will have its annual meeting. Resource providers will be present to talk about their  services and provide resource materials.

Attendees can choose from topics in the afternoon including: behavioral health; community building; employment successes and challenges; legal/medical and transportation. Contact hours will be available through AdCare Educational Institute of Maine.

In the evening, VetTalkX will be presented from 5pm to 6pm at the Klahr Center, UMA Augusta, ME. VetTalkX will feature five to seven Veterans sharing their personal stories of inspiration and accomplishments since leaving the military. These stories will be shared with the community, bridging the civil-military divide.

  • Engage civilian communities into the reintegration of veterans and service members
  • Increase the awareness among service members, veterans and providers of issues and opportunities related to the well-being of those
